Exploring the Surface: Painting with Cold Wax & Oil

at the Camden Lions Club
10 Lions Lane, Camden, Maine 04843
October 30 - November 2, 2019, 9AM - 4PM, 2019

Be seduced by the richness and colors you can create using cold wax. Create small  studies with cold wax and oil paints by using this ancient medium and discover how to build up a textured and vibrant paint surface. Using tools such as squeegees, brayers, palette knives and other tools learn how to work in the moment and in layers. You will be able to incorporate this technique at home without needing any special equipment.  This is a very direct and immediate way of painting and the focus of the class will be on discovery of various techniques and experimentation and risk taking during the creative process. The workshop is well suited for those who have had some painting experience and for those who are looking for new ways to enrich their current art practice. There will be plenty of time to paint during this four day workshop interspersed with demos and presentations and lots of one on one.

In this four day workshop you will:

  • Work in layers using cold wax and oil paint

  • Experiment with wet on wet paint, texture, mark making and stenciling

  • Focus on composition and the fundamentals of art: value, color, line, shape, form, and texture.

  • Watch demonstrations on various techniques

  • Work in a supportive environment.

Workshop fee: $400, with a deposit of $200 due at sign up. Discount of $50 available until September 8!

Here is what past students had to say………

….Thank you Anne for a wonderful four days.  I’m energized to continue working on the series format.  I’ve already changed the orange circles down to one and now have put it aside because I like one section but don’t know what do do with it to finish it.  I hear you saying put it away and start something else. In a week or so I’ll look at it again.

…..Memorable experience!  That is, I hope to remember all the great ideas, techniques, and guidance you provided.  Wonderful to meet everyone and work on our art journeys together. Hope to continue this amazing journey with you.

…..I didn’t properly thank you for your generous kind teachings these last six weeks. It seems you have stirred up in me a lost or hidden desire to create. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and passion. I feel so lucky. I had so much fun.

…..Thank you! Thank you for your generous spirit and energy! This class is one of the best things I have ever done for myself! Thank you, Anne!
