In this four day workshop the focus will be on composition, value, color, texture, form and content. The workshop is designed for artists who want to deepen their knowledge and experience of abstraction and who are looking for uninterrupted time, feedback and new inspiration to grow in their artistic practice. If you have not worked for a while, please use this opportunity to be inspired to pick up the brush again and create!
Every day will feature a guided compositional exercise and then lots of studio time to paint. Exercises will be based on the principles of design and a variety of techniques using oils or acrylics. I will be demonstrating some techniques that have worked for me and share my knowledge gained in a lifetime of painting abstractly! The pace will be fast moving and we will work on several paintings at once.
Emphasis will be on process, spontaneity, risk taking and exploring your own personal voice. The workshop is designed to build upon your artwork and make you more aware of your own intention. If you are a beginner or advanced student, you will be inspired in your own work through creative exercises, group discussions, individual and group critiques, powerpoint presentations and demonstrations.

Here is what past students had to say………
“I just completed an art class with Anne here in Maine. I have studied with many instructors over the past 17 years and Anne is one of the best instructors I have had. The class included demo time, techniques, studying several artists and how we might apply other artists techniques and styles in own work. It was an amazing class.”
“I am very new to painting and am immensely grateful to Anne for her ability to coax creative responses from me while I wield paint and paintbrush. Anne has a gentle and supportive way of guiding her students toward creative accomplishments. She is a truly remarkable teacher!”
“Anne is a knowledgeable, supportive, experienced teacher, and artist. She is more than willing to share one to one time in class and critique any work that her students have done outside of class. She also asks her students to send in jpegs of their favorite artists so she can discuss them with the whole class. The basics of composition and color are also discussed. Class with Anne is always an artistic, learning experience.”
